Fremont Opera Stars in concert with the Fremont Symphony Orchestra
Saturday, September 26 at 8 pm
Your favorite arias, duets, ensembles and orchestral selections from the world’s best-loved operas—Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Marriage of Figaro, Pagliacci, Rigoletto and more!
Winner of the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition in 2007 and the Fritz & Lavinia Jensen Foundation Competition in 2008, soprano NaGuanda Nobles was Shreveport Opera’s 2008 Singer of the Year. She appeared in last season’s Porgy and Bess and sang the role of Mimi in Fremont Opera’s La Bohème.
Mezzo-soprano Layna Chianakas has performed with Cleveland Opera, Opera San José and
the Bayreuth Festival, among others. Critics have cited her warm, caressing mezzo and dead-on pitch, and described her as “a convincing actress with a voice of unusual quality.”
Tenor Mathew Edwardsen was a finalist in last year’s Irene Dalis Vocal Competition,
a Western Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and an apprentice artist with Santa Fe Opera. He has sung numerous leading roles with opera companies throughout California.
Baritone Scott Bearden won First Place and Audience Favorite awards at last year’s Irene Dalis Vocal Competition, and was the First Prize winner of the Second Chester Ludgin American Verdi Baritone Competition in a jury that included Placido Domingo. He has appeared with San Francisco Opera and won rave reviews in the title role in San José Opera’s Rigoletto.
