| One of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, Jon Nakamatsu is a frequent concerto soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and solo recitalist throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. He enjoys a continuously expanding career based on a deeply probing and illuminating musicality as well as a quietly charismatic performing style.
Nakamatsu first came to global attention in 1997 as Gold Medalist of the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the first American to win since 1981. He has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Pops, Italy’s famed Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Berlin’s Deutsches Symphonie Orchester, and the orchestras of Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Honoluu, Portland, San Francisco and San Jose, to name just a few. In 2008 he performed Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the Fremont Symphony. This was as close to absolutely perfect pianism as I’ve encountered anywhere… Nakamatsu played with all the clarity of Mauricio Pollini blended with the sensibilities of a Walter Gieseking. I can’t remember the last time I cam across such flawless musicality in a pianist. Heuwell Tircuit, San Francisco Classical Voice Jon Nakamatsu’s playing is superb – crisply articulated, trills so even and perfect you can count the turns, the notes in every run evenly weighted, chords justly voiced, dynamic contrasts and shading sensitive to every phrase… This is music and the playing of it that you will truly relish.
